Counselling assessment

Our initial assessment session provides the opportunity for us to meet and begin to talk about your concerns.
I will ask questions about your life and the nature of your presenting
problems and we will also discuss therapeutic goals. Committed to working with integrity and within the BACP ethical framework for the Counselling Professions, this assessment enables me to consider your needs and explore whether online counselling is an appropriate medium. This session also provides the opportunity for you to begin to experience  the way I work, ask any questions or discuss any concerns you may have.  Essentially, giving you the opportunity to assess me and decide
if I am the right counsellor for you before making a commitment.

Towards the end of the session we can decide what happens next, we may agree on a set number of sessions or work from an open-ended perspective with regular 6 weekly reviews. I will also provide you with a counselling agreement or contract. This contract provides practical information about my clinical practice including confidentiality, fees and cancelations and sets the foundation for our shared commitment to counselling.

To ensure you have a regular space to talk, sessions are usually scheduled for the same day and time, on a weekly basis. However, if professional or personal obligations present difficulties session flexibility can be discussed.

Counselling is a journey of self discovery and this may be your first opportunity to share your feelings freely and begin to make sense of your current situation.  You may therefore prefer to take some time reflecting on this session, contacting me if you wish to continue.
